The WAND
by Karen Charboneau-Harrison
Long associated with wizards and magicians, the second of the four Major Tools of magick is the Wand. Its primary use is to channel, concentrate and direct energy. You have most likely seen the Magician card in the tarot with the image of a Mage directing energy through his Wand as well as the many images of Merlin wielding this powerful tool. The Wand is a symbol of the element Air, concentration, power, healing, archetypal masculine energy, the scepter of power of the ruling Monarch, the divine phallus and the intellect. It's that time of year when we're all outside having fun - but occasionally with that great time we're having also come bug bites, sunburns & the minor injuries of our outdoor enthusiasms. Here are some helpful, natural remedies for the summertime blues: For POISON OAK blend one ounce each of dried witchhazel leaves, white oak bark, mugwort, burdock root, yellowdock and dandelion leaves together. Simmer on very low for ten minutes in two quarts of water. Turn your mixture off and let it sit overnight. Strain & bottle. Wash affected area several times a day to relieve itch and heal infection. For POISON IVY you can use equal parts buttermilk and apple cider vinegar as a thin poultice on the skin or place the inside of a banana skin on affected area. Fresh orange impatiens works well to dry up poison ivy blisters. Break the stems then squeeze the juice onto the area and let dry. Go here to read this article in its entirety... The first day of May: flowers in bloom, budding trees, luxuriant green fields, the blue rush of streams. These are all images of the growing, fertile, life-filled Beltane season. Beltane begins the rule of the life-giving Goddess; personified by Mother Nature, Gaia, the powerful forces of regeneration and renewal. Her powers of growth, fertility and plenty bless us throughout the summer as we tend our gardens, eating just picked sun-warmed tomatoes as we work. Her energies are abundantly present until Her consort begins His rule at Samhain (Hallows Eve) when we become more introspective again, quieting down into Winter. The symbols of Beltane are those of life in celebration. The May basket filled with the gorgeous flowers of Spring; woven garlands of flowers and vines to adorn the house or made into a wreath for the head; the Maypole decorated with colorful ribbons, erected to dance around in a festival of homage to the Goddess who brings us life! The Goddess of love and beauty, Venus, rules the month of May. She is the planetary ruler of Taurus and Gemini (esoterically). In an earlier age May was a time for the wedding negotiations that followed the fertility festival of Beltane. Wedding dowries were agreed upon for the nuptials that would take place during the summer months. Summer weddings were (and remain) most common because the longer hours of daylight and warmer weather north of the equator provided easier travel to those who were on foot or horseback. The first week of May carries a highly creative grand trine configuration between Mars, Jupiter and Uranus in the gentle and sensitive water signs aiding optimism, originality, and acting on intuition. Venus enters into fiery Aries on Wednesday the 3rd adding an ardent and passionate element to ones love life. Sparks may fly with Mercury and Pluto also in dialog. Feelings will be more intense this week but so is the empathy. It is easier to put yourself in another's shoes now. This planetary kite configuration encourages us to listen to our hearts and take a risk on something big this week. Find out what this means for you in May....

by Karen Charboneau-Harrison
First, we need to talk about some ethics....
This ritual is designed to help bring a great love to your life. It directly
asks the Divine to determine who is best suited to you (and vice versa) and
bring them into your life - not to break up someone else's relationship so that
you can have your whim, or to bind a specific individual who you have in mind to
you in love. Those types of actions are unethical because they thwart the free
will of other people for your personal gain. Besides, you don't really know as
clearly as the Divine who will be best suited for you - you are judging on
looks, money, sexiness or whatever mundane quality and that quality is not the
one that necessarily helps to create a relationship that will last for life (or
many lifetimes). For this ritual, you must be ready to accept what the Divine
brings you and you must be ready for REAL love in your life. Go here to

FORECAST FOR MAY
by Elsbeth Pryer-Diehl
Early in May, Venus leaves
the comfort zone of Pisces and enters Aries. During this time, from May 3rd
- May 29th, you'll have to be decidedly more assertive to get what
you want - without being obnoxious to others in the process! Here, Venus is not
as concerned with others as with one's own self, which is appropriate to the
sign of Aries. You might say that Venus is less forgiving in a certain sense -
not so willing to be the proverbial "doormat". Aries is, therefore, the counter
point to Pisces. If you find yourself acting more assertively with others, just
be sure you're not being oblivious to their feelings and sensitivities |
