Saturday December 1st opens with the enthusiastic Sagittarius Sun restrained by the sobering energies of Saturn and the Moon in Virgo, indicating that this may be the perfect time to do some practical and discerning holiday shopping.

On the following day, Mercury, the planet of perception and communication, joins the Sun, lending a more gregarious energy to the planetary line up.

Venus, planet of pleasure and gifts, moves into thrifty Scorpio on 12/6. This placement favors researching your purchases and finding a good buy for your money.

The Sagittarius New Moon occurs at 10:41 AM MST on 12/9 with five planets in this friendly sign. With exciting and unpredictable Uranus squaring this New Moon anything is possible. Surprise and pandemonium are certain.

Festive and jovial Jupiter enters cautious Capricorn on 12/18 where he will remain for the next year.

Saturn, the planet of discipline and limitations, has slowed to station at 8 degrees of Virgo and turns retrograde also on 12/18, favoring a discriminating approach in the months ahead for those born in early September, December, March and June.

Mercury joins Jupiter on 12/20 in the sea goat's sign, shifting the energies from the impetuous fire dominant signs to the more practical earth sign of Capricorn.

The winter solstice and Yule occur on 12/21 at 11 PM MST. The ingress or birth chart for this season indicates a predominant focus on matters of security and health.

The holiday Cancer Full Moon occurs on Dec. 23rd at 6:16 PM MST. The Capricorn Sun opposite the Cancer Moon is the time in the hero/ine's journey where we can heal the split between mother and child. This split is related to our first experiences of authority. Our early authority figures told us much about ourselves; whether we were good or bad, smart or stupid, placid or stubborn, musical, athletic. They wrote the story of our early lives and influenced who we became. At some point we reject the story others shaped for us in favor of writing it ourselves, consequently creating a split between the "author"-ity of our caregivers and the necessity to establish personal authority. To some extent, the stories about ourselves that we inherited from our family (Cancer) represent our fate, whereas what we have chosen to do with these stories represents our destiny (Capricorn). The blessing (Cancer Moon) inside the burden (Capricorn Sun) of these stories is that we would not be who we are today without them. A litmus test for how connected and comfortable we are with our personal authority is our attitude towards outer authority figures. The Cancer Full Moon is when we feel the need to go home again, to reconnect with our roots and nurture ourselves with the traditions that soothe us and provide well-being.

2008

This is a year that finds the generational outer planets shifting to the practical and security-orientated element of earth where they will reside for the next several years. Saturn, Pluto and Jupiter will inhabit the signs of Virgo and Capricorn lending a cautious and pragmatic approach to professional and worldly matters. Pluto's entry into Capricorn will herald over its 16-year stay a transformation of our perception of big business and government. Jupiter, a planet that motivates expansion and exploration, will also reside in the Capricorn for the year ahead. Jupiter in Capricorn is ambitious and determined, particularly in the political and social arena.

Each of the 12 signs will experience the energies of the year ahead differently. The fire signs of Aries, Leo and Sagittarius will focus on manifesting professional goals and objectives. The earth signs of Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn will explore new possibilities and take calculated risks. The air signs of Gemini, Libra, and Aquarius will find themselves wrapping up old business, while the water signs of Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces will be focused on relationship matters.
