The Serenity Prayer Perhaps Kevin Costner was partnered with the wrong canine in the famous movie, "Dances with Wolves". Since one of the themes of the film was growth through unexpected change, maybe he was actually dancing with Coyote. Coyote is one of the Trickster spirits of Native stories. He causes trouble, gets into it himself, breaks all the rules, and brings about change. Usually unwanted change, which is later revealed to have been for the best. Changes appear in our lives in many ways. Sometimes they come crashing in with no warning, much like the Tower appearing in our Tarot reading. Sometimes they arrive as a gift or pleasant surprise. Sometimes these changes are something we have been working toward and planning for and are ready to welcome. The Tower and the Star are like opposite sides of a coin. On the one hand you have the Tower, a sudden change that can feel very destructive when you are in the middle of it. Often it can eventually have positive effects. Much like plowing a field before planting, first you have to stir things up and turn things over before you can create something of value. Sometimes you need to tear things down to the foundation to build something stronger in its place. On the other hand, the Star is immediately positive change. If we think about it the original book The Indigo Children by Lee Carroll was written not that long ago. The impact and popularity of this book sparked debate about whether our future generation of children had acquired gifts that have the potential to save our planet and our human race. The initial good-hearted attempts to identify and explain the various highly developed children rested upon setting them apart and claiming their origins to be on the same level as mini-saviors. Like most human behavior based upon curiosity, it is interesting to read the early attempts at quantifying, or identifying, Indigo Children, based solely upon shamanistic divination. In recognizing the remarkable difference of these gifted children, it was only natural to try to name, or classify, these children - marking their life-journey as blessed.
